In november 2024 Kim Violenes held her first solo debut in Artisa, San Nicolas showing 30 pieces.
In 2021 she started the “I Am” series which will be a lifelong series. The I Am series is a deeply personal and lifelong exploration of identity, inspired by her love of travel, poetry, quotes, and music. Each portrait in the series captures a fragment of the human journey—imperfect, evolving, and beautifully flawed.
Kim primarily paints her portraits on unconventional surfaces like fabric, newspapers, wallpaper, and craft paper, transforming everyday materials into profound works of art. Central to the series is the idea of incompleteness: each character is deliberately missing a part of their body. This represents our shared human reality—we are never truly “finished,” and our imperfections offer us space to grow and transform.
Many of the portraits include a small but meaningful detail: a beauty mark above the lip, mirroring Kim’s own, weaving a thread of personal connection into the work. Also all the characters have the “I AM” painted on their bodies.Throughout the series, she incorporates inspiring quotes that resonate with her, adding layers of thought and meaning to each piece.
The I Am series is a celebration of humanity, imperfection, and possibility, inviting viewers to reflect on their own journeys and the beauty of growth.

Title: Meanwhile in the garden of Eden. Inspired by a childhood drawing Kim made when she was 14 years old.
